Dress, Drive and Putt

A quick consideration of one's experience should always precede the enthusiastic reply, but alas, Nelly had left the barn. A golf game was planned for early July, when we would both be there for the haute couture shows. Besides, I could see how the whole thing looked: Paris in summer, the couture and the rolling green of a fairway, with a lot of terribly suave Frenchmen standing around smoking. If my friend had said kayaking on the Neva, I would have given it the same thought. Sometimes life opens a new window, and you just have to go through it.

Although I have not played golf since college, I did not consider this a problem. I could take a few lessons at my local course, and the rest, I felt sure, could be covered in "Golf for Dummies." The thing to keep uppermost in my mind was the grandeur of the Idea — golf in Paris — and this of course produced a corollary: what to wear?
