This message and sponsorship of one of our functions at our first WIGI Annual Meeting in Pinehurst, courtesy of WIGI Member
E. Gail Billingsley, Director of Marketing, PGA Worldwide Golf Exhibitions. Thank you, Gail!

Our numbers now near 100, which is much faster than I thought we'd grow, but I have to say that Helen Casey believed all along we'd will be in the thousands in no time at all. We have sent applications to several international members, so if you have friends out of the country who would like to join, let them know about us.

Several members have stepped up to the plate to participate in our organization, which is wonderful. Deborah Thode of Arnold Palmer Course Design is our WIGI Treasurer. She handles the books for Ed Seay, and said that doing this for us is easy for her. I say praise be to anyone who is good at financials. Deborah, we REALLY appreciate your help!

We have several members who will serve as Committee Chairs. There are hereby given permission to contact other members to ask them to serve. If you are asked and not delivering twins in November, please say yes.

Tiare Bevan Peck, Director of Communications for the World Golf Hall of Fame will head up the Meeting Committee. Rosemary Johnson will give Tiare some assistance. We will let them huddle and see if they need help. Rosemary has plenty of experience in this area, but is planning another meeting this season.

Alyson Ramsey of the New Jersey State Golf Association is going to head up the Program Committee for the Annual Meeting. She will get an assist from Helen Casey, but would probably like to have another member to help her out.

Janis Self is in charge of the golf outing, and whatever shape or form it takes, Janis will be in charge. She is traveling a lot with PGA Tour Radio, and so she may be hard to reach, but you can count on Janis to get things done. I know we have some LPGA or PGA members who have experience in working on golf/ member events. Please give Janis a call or email and let her know of your interest.

Karen Can'trell of Lady Golf will handle the Fashion Committee, and there could be nothing more fun than to have a fashion function at the first meeting. That means some coordination with all of you - Karen and Alyson and Tiare.

Cathy Arbalo and Patricia Turman will be in charge of the Equipment Committee. Those of you who would like to have an opportunity to showcase new women's products, at the Annual Meeting and/or in other creative ways, please contact Cathy and Particia. If you recall, they do custom clubmaking for women.

There have to be some members interested in being on the Travel Committee. We have several resort members, and it seems like a natural for those of you who have resort/ daily fee facilities to coordinate with others who have same and perhaps come up with some specials for WIGI Members Only.

We have a doman name: wigi.info. For now, though, our material continues to be published at ladygolf.com. However, we are working on a secure site where we will have a bulletin board feature. Film at eleven.

MEETING NEWS

Our WIGI Annual Meeting is a super networking opportunity. We know you will want to be a part of it. Who will win the First Annual WIGI Achievement Award? Perhaps someone who has helped us get the most members? Someone who has helped us in some other way? Perhaps someone who has received super industry recognition? Who will win the WIGI Golf Tournament?

Michele Bloom is our contact at Pinehurst. After some discussions with her and a look at the golf calendar, we have reserved space on November 10th-11th and 12th at Pinehurst Resort for our first WIGI Annual Meeting. The dates were selected because it's the slower season and by starting on Sunday, we could get better prices. In addition, the Tour Championship ends on Nov. 3rd, and several members will no doubt be involved in that event. And the Golf 20/20 and World Golf Hall of Fame induction weekend is Nov. 15th , 16th and 17th . Several members will also attend the Hall of Fame and 20/20 conference. Any later than that starts to get just more than a hint of fall in the air in N.C., plus holiday season starts. Michele, who is in the process of joining ( I know because I talked to the accounts payable people there re how to categorize the check), will be contacting you.

As mentioned previously, PGA Worldwide Golf Expositions - the people who bring you the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando and the Fall Expo in Las Vegas - will sponsor or co-sponsor a function at the Annual Meeting. Gail Billingsley has also shared some sponsor packages with us, and perhaps we will be able to find another group or two to participate. Pinehurst Resort will sponsor a luncheon.

We thank both these organizations for their gracious and sensible support of an organization devoted to women in golf.

Michele is working on special prices for rooms and golf. Golf will be a la carte, so that those who want to participate in the WIGI Golf Tournament can elect to do so, and those who aren't comfortable competing yet, can perhaps play a fun round with others on their own. Ideally, we will be able to find a sponsor for the golf tournament.

We will have to have firm numbers for Michele by late summer, so mark your calendar. If we get big enough with this meeting, we will develop some "significant other" activities. Of course, should you want to bring a guy or husband or pal, that's up to you. It is Pinehurst, home of the oldest golf resort in the U.S. Golf will be played!

As mentioned in last month's newsletter Helen Casey and Pat Baldwin have helped with bylaws, and after some review and revisions, you will be receiving those, too.

We still need chairpersons for Member Directory, Membership, Historian, Telephone, Parliamentarian, Communications, Awards and Travel. The Parliamentarian will definitely be needed at the Annual Meeting. I know we have experts in these areas. ( I know it's not me!)

Now, if your company would like to provide some prizes for golf or door prizes for a cocktail party, contact the Meeting Committee.

In other news:

Dawn Schlesinger of golfsurfin.com is offering employers a chance to post job openings for free on her website, which is devoted to just that: golf jobs. If you are looking for someone special for your organization, contact her.

Please welcome newcomers who have joined since the last newsletter: They have been added to the updated WIGI directory.

Nancy L. Matthews, CEO, NBS Consulting. Nancy handles all operations, finance and business development responsibilities for a marketing business that offers golf courses a revenue share of advertising opportunities. She's in Framingham, MA.

Judy Kearney, President, Valley Golf, Geneva, Ill, which if I recall correctly from the PGA Show, is a retail golf operation. If I have that wrong - Judy - please tell me.

Kathryn Crossett, Development Coordinator for AJGA in Braselton, GA.

Barb Hanson, President of Corporate Golf Services, which is a company that plans and manages golf events and presents seminars on rules etiquette and business golf. Barb is in Prior Lake, MN.

Jennifer Sterk, is Regional Marketing Director of of the Evergreen Alliance Golf in Omaha, NE where she does marketing and promotion for five courses.

Debbie Ssteinbach, Pro Promotions - here is where I get the shameless plug award - Debbie and I co-authored Venus on the Fairway - a book that you MUST purchase because it will totally change the way you think about playing golf. ( How was that Debbie?) Debbie formerly played on the LPGA Tour and lives - when she isn't teaching - in La Quinta, CA.

Jill Peterson, of Jill Peterson Management, San Francisco does sports marketing, event management and public relations. Her company is in San Francisco, CA.

Happy Birthday to:
Barb Hanson, May 5th; Jennifer Sterk, April 28th, Christine Lovrine, May 20th; Sherry Major, May 11th, Beth Reuter, May 2nd; Deborah Thode, May 24th; Debbie Waitkus, May16th and yours truly, May 30th. Belatedly to Kelly Mooney, April 27; and just in case I don't get hopping on the next newsletter to Suzie Reis, June 3.

If we've missed your birthday, if may be that you didn't fill out the membership form, so get us that information, and we'll give you a birthday salute.

Please remember to contact your friends and colleagues who might like to become a part of our networking group. And, if you have a question or need help with something in your business, think WIGI. That's the reason we've formed.
