WIGI - Member Newsletter Three

Dear WIGI Members

Two emails are being sent today. If you receive an updated WIGI Member Directory and this update, then your check has been received. Past newsletters are posted at ladygolf.com for now, so if you have just joined, check those for who does what. Also -- some spelling and whatnot changes/ corrections came in, and when everybody has a chance to review this latest list, we'll see if I got all of them.

More membership cards will go into the mail in the next few days. As before, if you have not received both, then a check isn't here yet or you're undecided, but we haven't forgotten about you. We are really growing, thanks to visiting trade shows, golf tournaments, word of mouth, handouts, etc.

Our bank account is now open. We have a tax id number. We have papers to become a non-profit group. And Karen Can'trell, don't ask me why this inventive and successful woman has an apostrophe in her name, but she's done so well, I'm thinking of adding one to mine - has added a WIGI information link to her website at ladygolf.com to help provide information on joining. Go to ladygolf.com and click on the golf ball next to WIGI information. This newsletter will be posted there within the week, I'm sure.

Meeting news. We have had communications with Pinehurst, via founder Pat Baldwin, regarding having our first annual meeting there in November. Don't have pricing details yet, but they are celebrating 100 years of women in golf at their resort and want us to be a part of it. They are talking three days and two or three nights. More news soon.

The meeting will include golf opportunities and a tournament for those who want to play. We've asked new member Janis Self of PGA Tour Radio to head up the Golf Committee. Janis isn't a pro, but she's a REEEELLLY good amateur. We hope that one of our pro members will want to help Janis with this. More on all of that and other member-to-member opportunities in a minute.

And Karen Can'trell has said she would head up the Fashion Committee for a show at Pinehurst, because we all want to know about the great looks golf apparel. If you would like to help these two members, please get in touch with them about the opportunities.

As with all our members, these two ladies are busier than a termite inspector in the southeast, so give them a day or two to respond.

Helen Casey and Pat Baldwin have helped with some bylaws, and those will be emailed separately. Please check the bylaws for opportunities for those of you who want to become involved, particularly with the first annual meeting, but in other capacities as well.

Our by-laws have committees for Member Directory, Membership, Historian, Telephone, Parliamentarian, Communications, Golf, Awards, Travel, Program, Fashion, Equipment, and Annual Meeting. This is not to say that there can't be more, but in terms of what members have said they would like, these seem to be at least a part of it. And believe it or not, we actually have experts in all these areas and more.

If you are interested in the Program Committee, Helen Casey will give you an assist. She doesn't want to chair it though. She wants someone else to have that opportunity. Many of you have requested methods to improve marketing in the golf industry, and I am confident our Program Committee can come up with some options there. We have several members who are marketing and promotion consultants, and so maybe a panel discussion Q&A would help others.

With members from Callaway, Tour Edge and pr for Adams Golf, I can smell an Equipment Committee coming to life -. Let me know your intentions, ladies. We're looking for a way to have some test product at the annual meeting, perhaps a prize or door prize or two. Get your thoughts in order.

Member Jennifer Mills was recently featured in Affluent Golfer magazine - the editor had arranged to play a round at Morgan Run Resort with Jennifer - which was the topic for the story. But along the way the editor, Wil Barnes, managed to squeeze in the fact that her handicap is a 13 even though her best sports as a kid were basketball and tennis. Find a copy, and you will enjoy reading it.

WIGI was featured in The Wire again. That was great for us and several more people requested information.

Opportunity knocks. Mike Loftus of Infinity Broadcasting in Boston, MA is looking for someone or several someones from WIGI who might like to get involved with a promotion for the Fleet Boston Sr. Tour event. Whether you'd like to put on a clinic for ladies or create some yet to be imagined on-site promotion to help your business - Mike is your guy. 617-779-8562.

Please welcome to newcomers who have joined since the last newsletter: They have been added to the updated WIGI directory.

If you are on this list, then you will also receive the earlier newsletter with information on members who were in the first group to join. I suggest that you make a folder - electronic or paper - of the members and their occupations/ businesses in case you need to know something that is a specialty of a member.
